Shortly after I published The Presence, one of my readers sent a message to my Facebook page, saying that although they loved the book, they were struggling to picture the layout of Blackmoor Hall. I understood her point, because it is depicted as a huge sprawling mansion with an unusual shape, and when writing the first draft of The Presence, I had a similar problem.
Because drawing was something I was pretty good at during high school, I decided to map out Blackmoor Hall, and its grounds. I went through a few different designs, the first of which was a U-shaped structure. However, because I wanted the house to feature long corridors, I eventually settled on the oblong shape.
